Cain Can't Contain the Cards as Giants Lose 8-2

Led by a four hit performance from Jon Jay, the Cardinals prevailed on Monday night, 8-2 against the Giants.

Angel Pagan continued his breakout road trip with a solo home run on the second pitch of the game from Jake Westbrook. Pagan, who went 7-14 against the Rockies at Coors Field, hit his second home run in four days, and tacked on another hit in the third inning for good measure.

However, the Giants weren't able to get to Westbrook.

Cain, who has a 4.40 ERA since tossing the first perfect game in Giants' history back in June, struggled once again against arguably the best offensive team in baseball. The Cardinals tied the game and ultimately took the lead in the second inning with a home run from Carlos Beltran, and an RBI single from Rafael Furcal.

But with one swing of the bat in the sixth frame, Buster Posey hit a towering home run off Westbrook to tie the game at two.

However, St.Louis would put a massive dent in the scoreboard during the bottom half of the inning against Cain.

Cain yielded five base runners in the inning, four being hits, and one of those hits was a game-opening, two-run single from pinch-hitter Matt Carpenter. David Freese also drove in a run on a deep sacrifice fly before Carpenter's hit. Cain departed from the game losing 5-2, his ERA also jumped up to 3.01 after the start.

St.Louis tacked on three more runs in the seventh on Jon Jay's fourth hit of the game, and Freese's second RBI of the contest.

Despite rolling out of the mile high city on a high note, the Giants' sudden lively offense was unable to structure a comeback.
