What's on Tap - 8/8: Cain Looks to Wear Down Dodgers, College Football Saturday, etc.

It's one of those days where you can just kick back, sit on your couch all day, and marvel at the numerous sporting events that will come across your television screen.

We'll kick it off (literally) at high noon with some Cal Football. The Golden Bears take on Southern Utah at Memorial Stadium, as they hope to shake off a bad loss to Nevada last week.

Then, it's off to AT&T for some Dodgers-Giants baseball. After beating LA 5-3 last night, Matt Cain and the Giants will look to send the sellout crowd home with something to cheer about. First pitch is at 1:00 PM.

More baseball comes your way next at 6:00 PM as the A's take on the Mariners from Safeco Field in Seattle. The infallible Brett Anderson and his 0.90 ERA will look to shut down the meager Seattle offense.

And last but not least, the Stanford Cardinal take the field at Palo Alto against the Duke Blue Devils. Stanford looked awfully shaky last week, beating San Jose State by just a field goal and consequently falling to the No. 25 ranked team in the nation. Kickoff is at 7:30 PM.

The Nightcap - 9/8: Giants Beat LA, A's Beat Felix

Marco Scutaro delivered the clutch hit on Friday night to beat the Dodgers 5-2, as the Giants took the first of this pivotal three-game series.

The A's pulled it out against Felix Hernandez up in Seattle. George Kottaras provided the signature hit with a three-run homer, as the A's ended their three-game skid with a 6-1 victory.

What's on Tap - 9/7: Giants, A's Back in Action

Hope we were able to keep you company yesterday, a day that will go down as one of the worst in sports programming history.

Anyways, the good news is that both the Giants and A's are back in action tonight, and we will be all over it with previews and recaps.

The Giants take on the Dodgers at AT&T in a pivotal series. Tim Lincecum and Josh Beckett, two marquee pitchers, will duke it out in a battle between two rivals. First pitch is at 7:15 PM.

After being swept by the Angels, the A's will look for some wins up in Seattle. It will not be easy for them tonight though, as they will have to solve the puzzle that is Felix Hernandez. First pitch is at 7:10 PM.

The Nightcap - 9/6: McCarthy Recovering From Surgery, Raiders Sign Hagan

The lack of games on this Thursday did not make it a boring day on this sports blog.

A's pitcher Brandon McCarthy had surgery after being hit in the head by a line drive off the bat of Erick Aybar on Wednesday. Fortunately, he is expected to make a full recovery.

Countdown to the NBA Season: 9/7

"LeChoke Sucks!" "Kobe doesn't pass the ball!" "Kevin Durant has small arms, haha!" Just stop. I know NBA fans have rivalries with each other, but there's no need to directly insult players of tremendous talent. Have a rivalry, fine. Don't bring the players, who work as hard as they can, everyday, into it. They have enough problems going on. They keep training, and training, and training, waiting for that opening night game..

The Nightcap - 9/5: Giants and A's Lose Series at Home

It was a frustrating night for the Giants, who were held without a hit through six innings by Trevor Cahill as the D-Backs rolled 6-2 to take the series in San Francisco. 

The A's had no better luck against the Angels, as they were swept on their home turf with a 7-1 loss on Wednesday afternoon. However, the main storyline will be Brandon McCarthy, who took a line drive to the head. Thankfully, he is expected to make a full recovery.

MLB Standings - Giants 4.5 games ahead of Dodgers in NL West, A's tied with Baltimore for Wild Card in AL.

Countdown to the NBA Season: 9/6

Another day goes by. That's all it takes. Work and effort are going into the game. It's so hard to do what the players do every night, and to think that they want to do this for what? Our pleasure? No. It's all in the pursuit of an NBA Championship. Us fans are just a boost: in a way, we're all apart of the team. Don't believe me? Watch the NBA and you'll see there's really no other explanation. Time to work is limited.

After dropping the first two games of the series, the A's will look to salvage the final game of the series against the Angels in a Wednesday matinee. Brandon McCarthy will look to stop the Angels' prolific offense.  First pitch is at 12:35 PM.

The Giants will look to rebound from a stinging eleven-inning loss against the D-Backs last night, and Madison Bumgarner will look to give them a series' victory. First pitch is at 7:15 PM.

The Nightcap - 9/4: A's Fall to Greinke, Giants Fall in Extras

Zack Greinke returned to his Cy Young-form against the A's tonight as he went seven strong innings. The Angels defeated the A's 6-1 at the Coliseum.

Despite a mighty comeback by the Giants, the D-Backs had the last laugh on Tuesday night in an eleven-inning marathon with an 8-6 win at AT&T. The game went so long that even the seagulls got impatient.

Countdown to the NBA Season: 9/4

Not a lot has happened in the past couple of days, but believe me, teams have been working really hard. Think your team is 'stacked'? Just look at the rosters of each other team and tell me if you think the Hornets are going to the playoffs this year. It's all about the effort and work. Maybe things will be different in these last couple of months: preseason is closer than one may think.

Both Bay Area teams battle divisional foes on Tuesday night.

Ryan Vogelsong and the Giants look to build off of their exciting walk-off win yesterday against the Diamondbacks, while the A's look to start a new win streak after the Angels snapped their nine-gamer on Monday afternoon.

The Nightcap - 9/3: Giants Win Thriller, A's Streak Snapped

Marco Scutaro, the hero. Scutaro's walk-off base hit capped off a dramatic come-from-behind win by the Giants over the D-Backs at AT&T Park on Monday afternoon.

The A's had their nine-game win streak snapped by the Angels in an 8-3 loss. So much for Moneyball II, huh?

The Nightcap - 9/2: A's Sweep BoSox, Giants Comeback in Chicago

Every day, the story just gets more and more unbelievable. With their 6-2 win over the Red Sox on Sunday, the A's have their ninth straight win, second consecutive series sweep, and are tied for the Yankees for the second-best record in the AL.

The Giants worked a little magic of their own today, coming back from a 5-3 deficit to win it 7-5. Angel Pagan came up huge at Wrigley Field.

And then, there are the Earthquakes, who shut out Chivas USA 4-0 on Sunday night.

What's on Tap - 9/2: Giants and A's Wrap Up Series, Quakes Take on Chivas USA

Good morning, happy Sunday to you all you Bay Area sports fans!

The Giants wrap up their series against the Cubs at Wrigley Field at 11:20 AM as Matt Cain takes the hill. 

Meanwhile, the A's will look for their second consecutive sweep and ninth win in a row as they take on the Red Sox at 1:05 PM from the O.Co Coliseum. 

And the Quakes will wrap up the day at 6:05 PM as Chivas USA comes to Buckshaw Stadium in a NorCal-SoCal showdown.

The Nightcap - 9/1: A's Win 8th Straight, Lincecum Beats Cubs, Cal Falls in Opener

The A's won their eighth straight game tonight, defeating the Red Sox 7-1.  However, they did lose third baseman Brandon Inge to season-ending shoulder surgery.

Xavier Nady introduced himself to the Giants with a bases clearing double in his first at bat, as Tim Lincecum pitched well enough to defeat the Cubs in Wrigley. 

Cal had a very disappointing home opener at the new Memorial Stadium, falling 31-24 to Nevada.

What's on Tap - 9/1: Cal Football Kicks Off, A's and Giants in Action

The Cal Bears will open up at the newly-renovated Memorial Stadium at noon today against the Nevada Wolfpack. Should be a good beginning to a promising season for the Golden Bears!

The Giants will look for redemption against the Cubs after being beat 6-4 yesterday afternoon. Tim Lincecum looks to get on track with a solid outing. First pitch is at 10:05 AM.

After whooping the Red Sox 20-2 last night, the A's will look to back that up with another strong win at  6:05 PM tonight. AJ Griffin will make his return off the DL and start for Oakland.

The Nightcap - 8/31: A's Rout Red Sox, Giants Fall in Wrigley, Stanford Survives Scare

It was a night that will not be soon forgotten at the Coliseum, as the A's pounded out 20 runs (yes, 20) to defeat the Red Sox by 18 runs. 

Not the same story for the Giants, though. MadBum struggled, and Alfonso Soriano burned the Giants en route to a 6-4 loss at Wrigley Field.

And how about some college football? The Stanford Cardinal began their season at home against San Jose State, and barely escaped with a 20-17 victory. A shaky start, but hopefully better things are yet to come.
