A's Fall Out of Playoff Spot as Weaver Pitches Shutout

Kevin Jairaj/US Presswire

For the first time in seventeen games, the A's are out of a playoff spot and many are beginning to wonder if this Cinderella story is coming to an end.

The A's offense was non-existent on Monday night as reigning Cy Young Award winner and LA Angels' ace Jared Weaver showed why he's one of the best in the game. Weaver threw a complete game shutout, striking out nine and  allowing just four hits.

Erik Aybar went 3-4 with an RBI, and exciting young rookie Mike Trout reached base in all four plate appearances.

Jarrod Parker pitched well for the A's, but it didn't matter because he got no run support. He did give a key hit in the seventh inning - a two-strike hanging curveball that Torii Hunter hit into center field to double the Angels lead to 4-0.

As mentioned before, the A's are now out of a playoff spot at 58-51, a half game behind the Angels.
