Big Inning Dooms Ross, A's Shutout in Tampa

Tyson Ross, who was called up to fill in for the suspended Bartolo Colon, pitched well for five out of six innings against the Tampa Bay Rays tonight.

Unfortunately, he allowed a crooked number in that one inning. Five runs in the fifth inning, and it doesn't get any more crooked than that.

In a scoreless game, the Rays completely busted it wide open in the fifth frame, as they had baserunners left and right. With runners at second and third and nobody out, Ryan Roberts plated the first run with a sac fly. Four more runs would score on RBI hits by Sam Fuld, Matt Joyce and Evan Longoria.

Meanwhile, Rays starter Alex Cobb was nothing short of spectacular, going the distance and pitching a shutout against the A's. He allowed just four hits, two walks to go along with eight strikeouts.
