The Nightcap - 8/4: Giants Beat Up on Rockies Again, A's Fall in Extras (What?)

For those of you wondering what happened to the Daily Recap, we've turned it into the "Nightcap". Here's the difference: instead of just throwing out links for you to click on, we'll weave everything into a story so there will actually be some flow to it. And there will definitely be a ton of sarcasm involved. Got it?

Alright...let's give it a shot.

-------------------------------

Boy the A's sure love playing extra innings, don't they? In fact, they love extras so much that they're willing to give up a game-tying home run in the bottom of the ninth just to play additional frames.

Too bad it didn't work out for them today. A costly throwing error by catcher George Kottaras in the eleventh inning on a double-steal attempt by the Toronto Blue Jays kept the A's from getting their fourteenth walk-off win.

It was a different story for the Giants. After walloping the Rockies and their woeful pitching staff 16-4 yesterday, San Francisco gave it to them again with a 11-6 rout.  Maybe the Giants should play every game at Coors Field from now on, because it's the only way they'll ever score more than three runs in a game (I'm not kidding).

The Giants signed Cal product Xavier Nady today in an effort to boost their offensive production at first base. It appears that their hopes are so low on Brandon Belt that they're willing to bring in a guy hitting .157 to replace him.
