Dissecting Jarrett Jack's Role for the Warriors

When Bob Myers sent Dorell Wright to the 76ers, most Warrior fans were probably thinking that they were lucky just to get rid of him. Getting Jarrett Jack, a PG of putting up some big numbers, was a huge bonus. Upon hearing this news, many were ecstatic. Jack is going to bring more to the table than one would expect. He has a huge role as backup PG.

First of all, Jack is a true PG with true court vision. If Curry goes down, then Jack and Thompson should also be a good backcourt pairing. Thompson is a static SG who knows what his role is and won't try to deviate from it. He will only improve. With Jack's right-on-the-money passes, there's no way he and Thompson won't work together.

Next, he and Curry would also work as a backcourt in periods of time. Yes I understand, this is like the Curry-Ellis arrangement. Keep in mind, however, that Ellis and Curry were able to win some games in their stint of seasons together. Jack will really allow Curry to shine at the SG spot where he really wants to play. You can't deny what Curry is - A spot up, stone cold shooter with a beautiful stroke.

The biggest role, perhaps, of Jarrett Jack, however, would probably be assists. He will lead the Warriors in assists this year, as he will always be the PG. The fact that he's a bench player, doesn't matter. Another good trait of this veteran is that he's a crowd pleaser. He may fill even more seats in the building.

Warriors' Most Deadly Combo's

With a roster like the Warriors' it's impossible to not have some deadly combinations that will end up working out in the end. I've already described a couple of them, but there's many reasons as to why these dynamic duos will work.

The Obvious:

1. Stephen Curry/Klay Thompson: 6'3 PG, controls the offense, has court vision. 6'7 Sharpshooter who almost never misses, and then works for everything he wants. This is a perfect combo. Curry will be easily able to find Thompson spotting up for three. They won't fight for control of the ball, and now they can actually guard a two guard who used to have a height advantage vs. the Warriors.

2. Jarrett Jack/Stephen Curry: Jack is likely to be the one who averages the most Assists per game with the Warriors. There are so many pure shooter on the team. When he plays with Curry, it spreads the floor, and gives Curry a chance to play where he really shines. At the two guard. Jack was a great pickup from Dorell Wright. Not to mention, Jack can also score at an alarming rate if necessary.

The Subtle:

3. Harrison Barnes/Klay Thompson: After the NBA draft, I envisioned Barnes and Thompson fighting for position and playing time. After watching the Warriors summer league game vs the Lakers, I realized that's not going to be a problem at all. Here's why: Endless range, and drives to the basket. Barnes can shoot, Thompson can shoot, and they both have worked on their driving skill. With these two on the floor, the offensive plan doesn't need to be in affect.

4. Andrew Bogut/Any Guard: This one is very easy to explain:
- Bogut Posts Up
- He is stronger than his defender
- Help comes
- He is smart enough to pass it out
- A Guard's three point attempt hits the bottom of the net

Stats Analysis: Jarrett Jack (Funny Video)

Jarrett Jack will likely be playing PG most of the season due to injury for Stephen Curry, or just because Stephen Curry is lighting it up from three point range. The Warriors give a little and got a lot. When trading Dorell Wright, they got an experienced PG who averaged well over 10 PPG, has court vision, and a high basketball IQ. The lineups and possibilities are endless.

Points: Jack isn't a natural scorer, he's more of a facilitator. He still knows where he needs to be and at the right time as well. This is why the points come to him naturally. He can hit the spot up three, or take the ball through an open lane to the basket. Jarrett Jack is likely to float around 11.2 PPG this season. Mentally, Jarrett Jack know what to do.. FUNNY VIDEO

Assists: I predicted that Jack would be the leader in assists. Mainly because he's passing the ball to Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Harrison Barnes, David Lee, and Brandon Rush. Those aren't even the only guys who can score on the team. Jack has the eye for the play too, as he will be able to slip it into Bogut for an easy basket at the rim. Jack will average around 6.7 Assists per game.

Rebounds: Again, it isn't really a PG's job to secure a rebound. But when you're a smart PG like CP3, or Russell Westbrook, the ball comes right into your hands off a missed shot. Its about positioning. Jack will average around 3.4 Rebounds per game.

Steals: He may not have the quickest hands, or the longest arms, but Jack does have the ability to get into the passing lane, or strip a center from behind. Again, for a PG, it's all about positioning. Jack should average at least 0.8 steals per game. At least.

Turnovers: PG's are usually the cause of many turnovers. Hopefully, as far along as Jack is in his career, he won't end up turning the ball over that much. He's an experienced veteran who knows what he's doing, and can predict how other players will react to a certain pass that he makes. Jack will only average around 1 TO per game.

Second Unit Will Be Crucial for Warriors

Most people care about the starting lineup. That's whats going to get the Warriors to playoffs? Probably, but as I've said before, coaching is a huge factor, and so is the bench. Usually bench is a negative word in basketball terms. The thing is, however, that the bench is arguably the piece to success. The starters can't do everything. This is why the Warriors are going to need their bench players to all play big parts.

Backups:

1. Jarrett Jack: We already know what Jack can do. He's capable of scoring 15 points, and dropping 6 dimes. That's not going to happen this season. He can still, however, contribute with a very respectable 11.5 PPG and 6 Assists. (He will play with Curry on the floor, which means that his Assist number won't go down). What we need from Jack is consistency, and a player to rely on if Curry goes down.

2. Brandon Rush: If Rush wanted to be a starter and made a big deal of that, than he definitely thinks he's capable. Confidence is key. Rush proved to be more valuable than the Pacers thought. He was one of the best three point shooters in the NBA, energized the crowd, and played like an honorable veteran. The Warriors are going to need that this season. He plays the 2-3 spot, which is good: he will have strength at the 2 guard for the Dubs. He will average 9 PPG, 5 Rebounds, while occasionally breaking out.

3. Richard Jefferson: As much as Draymond Green has impressed us, he will not back up Harrison Barnes. All the time. He's more likely to backup Lee while Landry plays the center spot. There are so many different combinations. Jefferson is the veteran that can teach the youngsters how to play the game. Along with Jarrett Jack, he knows what he's doing on the floor. He will average 8-10 PPG, 3 Rebounds. I know for sure that he will break out often if there is no other guy having an offensive night.

4. Carl Landry: As a player who started all the games last year, Landry averaged around 12 PPG. That's pretty good, considering how tough he is, and how he plays crucial defense. He makes a smart play no matter what. Landry can easily matchup with other premier PF's. (Unless you count LeBron as a PF). Landry will average 9-10 PPG. He will be efficient.

5. Festus Ezeli: Ezeli is the odd man out on this list. He's the only one that's a rookie. That's not a bad thing. The Warriors coaching staff say that he's already adding much needed presence to the inside. He will be apart of the stifling defense that every team will hopefully struggle against. Ezeli will average 4-5 PPG, but with 1.2 Blocks.

Not all these guys are averaging double digits, but chances are that with the skill they all posses, at least 2 of them will break out every night. That doesn't seem like a lot, but the little things add up.

With Kent Bazemore and Draymond Green also likely to be apart of the lineup, the Warriors are adding even more presence on the glass. This is why the second unit, and 2 of the reserves are important for the Warriors.
