Giants Annihilate the Cardinals 15-0, Vogelsong Goes Seven Strong

Annihilation. Destruction. Obliteration.

Call it whatever you want, but the Giants absolutely pummeled the Cardinals 15-0 on Wednesday night to in an all-around effort.

Every single Giant in the starting lineup got a hit with the exception of the pitcher Ryan Vogelsong, and the runs came early and often.

They were up 2-0 by the third inning on two RBI singles by Hunter Pence and Angel Pagan, and the game was still fairly close at that point.

But the Giants would break it wide open in the sixth thanks to a costly error by Tyler Greene, the Cardinals' second baseman. With one run already in and the bases loaded with nobody out, Ryan Theriot hit a grounder to Greene that had double-play all over it. But Greene pulled a Brooks Conrad and had the ball go right between his legs and into right field, allowing two runs to score. So instead of a two-run inning, the Giants would capitalize on Green's mistake and add on, making it a five-run frame. 7-0 Giants.

The way Ryan Vogelsong was pitching, seven runs would be plenty. Vogelsong pitched seven shutout innings, allowing just three hits.

How about some more offense? The Giants strung together a series of hits in the eighth inning, putting up a four spot to extend their lead to 11-0. Then in the ninth, Marco Scutaro knocked in four runs in a much more efficient manner - with a grand slam to left field to make it 15-0, and that would be your final score.

One other note, the newest Giant Jose Mijares pitched a scoreless ninth inning in his first appearance. Mijares was claimed by the Giants off waivers earlier this week.
