Giants Hang on Beat Padres 8-7

If you wondered whether the Giants offensive outburst yesterday would continue, the answer is a definite "yes".

Tonight, they did it in comeback-fashion against the San Diego Padres, who held a 4-1 lead early.

Joaquin Arias got the Giants on the board first with a home run in the second, but the Padres would respond quickly. After tying it up in the bottom half of the inning, Chase Headley hit a three-run homer in the third inning off of Barry Zito.

But the Giants would come storming back with a four-run fifth inning. Marco Scutaro hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 4-2, then Pablo Sandoval reached on a fielder's choice ground ball when Headley made a poor decision to throw home instead of to first. Angel Pagan scored on the play, and it was 4-3.

Hunter Pence would tie it up with a sac fly, and Arias would knock in the go-ahead run with a single to left field. Arias went 3-5 on the night.

The Padres would tie it right back up at five apiece in the sixth on a solo homer by Giants-killer Carlos Quentin.

But the Giants would take control from there. Buster Posey knocked in Scutaro in the seventh to give the Giants the lead again, and they would add on with RBIs by Arias and Pence to make it 8-5.

However, the night couldn't end without a little bit torture. After getting the first two outs in the ninth, Jeremy Affeldt allowed two runs on a couple of singles to cut the lead to one. But Clay Hensely would save the day, striking out Mark Kotsay to end the game.
