A's Defeat Orioles Behind Colon's Masterpiece

After allowing nine runs yesterday, the A's pitching staff was near perfect today. Behind Bartolo Colon's 5.2 scoreless innings, Oakland defeated Baltimore 6-1.

The A's struck in the fourth inning when, with Jemile Weeks at third, Yoenis Cespedes crushed a line drive into the left field seats, putting them up 2-0.

Then in the fifth, Erik Sogard singled in Kurt Suzuki on a single to right field. The crushing blow came in the sixth, when Chris Carter drilled his eighth home run of the year to left field, plating Cespedes, who was on first.

Nick Markakis would spoil the shutout bid with a homer in the ninth, but otherwise, it was a perfect night for the A's.
