The Nightcap - 8/25: A's Take Series in Tampa, MadBum Falters Against Braves, etc.

Before we start, we'd like to pay our respects to Neil Armstrong, an American hero who passed away at the age of 82 today. Armstrong was a pioneer in space travel as the first person to set foot on the moon, and we lost a great astronaut and an even better person today.

Now, on to the busy day in Bay Area sports...

Let's lead off with some Little League baseball! It seemed destined that the Petaluma Nationals would walk-off and advance to the championship game, but it was not to be despite their ten-run comeback in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The A's got a huge win today against the Rays, and are now twelve games over .500 for the first time since 2006, which is the last time they made the playoffs.

MLB Standings: Giants up two games on Dodgers, A's tied with Baltimore for second wild card spot.

On to football. The Raiders finally got a win in the preseason, as Terelle Pryor shined against the Detroit Lions Saturday night at the O.Co Coliseum.

And the Earthquakes put the cherry on top with a resounding 4-1 win against the Rapids. Simon Dawkins and Alan Gordon had two goals apiece.

I'd like to conclude with a video that I'm sure most Americans would rank as one of the greatest lines of all time:

"That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."
