A's Fall to Kansas City 5-0, Big Inning Dooms Parker

It seems as if the A's young pitching staff is losing a bit of steam. Jarrod Parker allowed four earned runs in 4.2 innings, and it was one big inning that was his undoing.

Parker shutout the Royals' lineup for four innings, but it all unraveled in the fifth. A string of baserunners resulted in a five spot by Kansas City.

Two of those runs could have been avoided. A ground ball off the bat of Alcides Escobar was mishandled by Jemile Weeks, and a single by Eric Hosmer just went under the glove of first baseman Chris Carter.

Jeremy Guthrie pitched a masterful game, going seven innings and allowing no runs on just three hits.

The A's will look to bounce back tomorrow, when Brandon McCarthy (6-3, 2.68 ERA) takes on Will Smith (3-4, 5.48 ERA). No, not that Will Smith.
