Latest Giants' Headlines and Rumors

The trade deadline is looming and the Giants have been relatively quiet, but that could change. However, there are still some very important headlines.

Here are the latest Giants’ headlines:

Giants Trade for Marco Scutaro

Scutaro was acquired on Friday night during the game in which the Giants would go on to lose, 5-3. He will bring some much needed veteran versatility to the Giants. And with Pablo Sandoval nursing a strained hamstring, there’s a good chance that he will get some starts at third in the Panda’s absence. Another possibility is for Scutaro to take over the every day third base job, making Sandoval the prime first baseman when he returns. There are multiple combinations and skipper Bruce Bochy will just have to figure out which one is the most effective.

Sandoval Heading to the DL?

On Friday, there was some speculation that Sandoval could avoid the DL, and return at some point mid-next week. However, that speculation has shifted and there’s a good chance that the Panda is heading towards the DL sometime before the weekend ends. the acquisition of Scutaro will most likely force the front office to designate Emmanuel Burriss for assignment, but Aubrey Huff could also be on his way back too. Prior to Friday’s game, Huff was taking batting practice with the team. Sabean confirmed that he could activate the veteran as early as today (Saturday).

UPDATE: Sandoval was placed on the 15-day DL before Saturday’s game, and Huff was activated as well. Burriss was DFA to make room for Huff and Scutaro.

Giants Looking at the Phillies’ Hunter Pence?

As of now, it’s just a rumor considering that Philadelphia hasn’t even declared him available, but the Giants are in the market for right-handed hitting outfielder. The Phillies’ asking price would be tremendously high, and the Giants don’t have many enticing pieces in their farm system. I wouldn’t count on Pence putting on the orange and black any time soon.
